Monitor Question Please

I just want to check something to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.
I have a Dell P991 analog monitor and in my computer I have an EVGA
6800GT 256 AGP card that has a DVI connection available along with the
standard monitor connector . The monitor has a
standard connector only. If I use the DVI adapter that I have to hook up the
monitor to the DVI port on the computer,
1. can I do this and not hurt the monitor,
2. is there any advantage to the in/out flow for the
monitor, or
3. must I use the standard monitor plug on the monitor for the
connection to the computer?
Thanks much.
Dudley

You can not magically turn an analog monitor into a digital monitor by using
an adapter. You will gain no benefit, and may even notice a decrease in
visual acuity due to losses from the adapter.
