Monitor picture is very dark

When I get new equipment, my old computer, etc. goes over to my parent's.

The last two monitors I set up for them worked fine at my place, but were
very dark at there's.

So I replaced the most recent monitor with a pretty recent Dell monitor.

When I set it up, it looked fine.

A week later, and the picture is almost too dark to see. And adjusting
brightness and contrast on the monitor does nothing. It's set as bright
as it possibly can be.

Could this have something to do with the house electrical system? If so,
is there something I can purchase that will boost power?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

Check the line volatge with an AC voltmeter...there's a possibility that
it's
low...and if so, you should get the wiring checked...or check other outlets

If the voltage is low a UPS or ferroresonant line conditioner might help

Have you removed those monitors from that environment, taken them back
to your place (or whichever system) where they previously worked fine?

I'm wondering if it could be something simplier, like a video card
driver setting... if nothing appears to be changable in the (Windows?
Display Properites) then perhaps something in the registry that is
hidden from user manipulation due to a driver change or ???

Thank you, Dave and Philo, very much for the suggestions. I'll have a chance
this weekend to explore some more and I appreciate the advice!
