Monitor--goes off and on

I have the following problem. My monitor clicks off and on when I am
backing up Quicken 2005 and when I am installing updates for McAfee Virus
Checker V.10. It leaves a square cursor in the upper left hand corner of
the window when it is clicked off.

The following are my specs:

Windows XP Professional
512 MB Memory
Hardware Acceleration at Full
Adapter NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4600
Settings at 1024 by 768 Pixels (I changed this to other settings and it had
no effect on my problem.)
Color Quality--Highest 32 Bit
Screen Refresh Rate: 75 Hertz (I changed this to other settings and it had
no effect on my problem.)
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73 GHz

Any more information needed, let me know.

Any ideas, be sure to let me know.

Thanks for your help.

I did one suggestion. I disconnected the color monitor from the computer
but that had no effect.

Sounds like the software is switching the monitors resolution to a mode
that you haven't correctly adjusted the monitor for. OR you have
something real interesting set for the "console" setting when you run
the "backup" program. The clicking is when the monitor switched modes.
Use the OSD of the monitor to determine what mode has been set. For
further guidance refer to the monitor userguide and manual.
