Hi,

I am having a troublesome problem with XP Home edition. I
am trying to create a dial-up internet connection and it
does not seem to recognize the modem. It shows a "device
missing" error on the dial-up connection icon.

I have tried many things that have not worked, including:
1. New modem
2. Different modem drivers
3. Reg hacks
4. Rolling back xp to a previous setup
5. Moving modem to different com ports
6. Kicking and screaming :-)

Has anyone had this problem and can anyone give some
advice, or at least something to try? Thanks!

Install the modem.
Go to Device Manager and poll the modem. If it returns poll information,
then XP sees it and it's working.
As far as your ISP connection, I would delete it and start over with the
connection Wizard.
Choose Connect to the Internet, then Set up connection manually. What it
creates is a generic dial-up connection.
You'll have to then configure it with the phone number and the options setup
you want.
