MIxer Device Missing

I seem to be having a problem with my sound on my PC. I get the windows
startup sound through the speakers, when I check the sound devices it is
present then a few minutes later i will check it again and no mixer devices
present.

I have tried reloading the device driver, uninstalling and reinstalling.
Ensuring no other onboard sound devices ie bluetooth or AC'97 are installed
or enabled but all to no avail. This is a PC sound card installed in a PCI
slot. I had the same problem with my onboard sound which is why I bought a
sound card.

REformatting and reinstalling is not an option at present too much data and
no time to do.

2 other points worth noting, when I am looking at the sound devices the
colour of the windows appearance changes.

Also yesterday I had a windows update and the sound card was aorking okay
yesterday.

Any ideas?

Do you get any sounds after Windows startup?

Yes it worked on startup but then stopped seemingly after everything else had
loaded.

It sounds like your computer has more problems than just the sound
card. But, you might want to try this...go into start menu/ then run.
Type in msconfig Run this and click on startup tab. Look for
anything that has to do with sound card or mixer and disable/uncheck.
Restart system. If you disable anything in msconfig, you will have to
manually start the program in the start menu after restart. NOTE: after
restart, there will be a message about system configuration utility.
Check don't show again.

Please let me know how this goes. I am really curious about this
problem and want to help fix it. You can send a message to my personal
email.
