Missing UPS Tab in 'Power Options'

M

Mike Chavez

Good morning,

I have a Compaq Windows 2000 server Service Pack 4. The problem is that
when I go into the control panel and open up the 'Power Options' applet,
there is no UPS tab available. Second, the Uninterruptible Power Supply
supply service cannot be started. I hope this is the right newsgroup for
this post.

1. The server is using an APC UPS that is connected via a serial cable on
COM4 (an expansion card with an extra serial slot was used).
2. The server is able to detect the UPS when installing the APC software,
but the software has become unstable and freezes during parts of the install
3. The server used to have the latest version of the APC software, but that
has since been removed.
4. The Uninterruptible Power Supply service is 'disabled'. If you double
click the service and change it to automatic/manual, and then start the
service, it fails with the message: "Could not start the Uninterruptible
Power Supply service on the local computer. Error 2: the system cannot find
the file specified."
5. In the service properties box, there is no path to the executable.
6. Article ID 234966 has been no help :(

Any ideas as to the cause of this problem?

Thank you,

Mike Chavez
