Missing Sound Recorder

I want to record my voice to attach to on-line presentations in a web site
but can't get it to work.
I have a sound card, microphone, speakers and hardware that works fine
(Santa Cruz). I've run its test mode for voice and it works fine too.
In accessories/entrtainment there is no sound recorder.
My XP operating system was pre-loaded on my Dell and I have no disks to load
it again.
Is there a place to get the sound recorder? If not, can I somehow buy one?

"Sound recorder" really isnt worth running...To record audio/video,download
windows media encoder 9 series.In the encoder,select capture audio/video.Also
set audio properties to record & chk the box for line-in or mic....

Start | Run | Type: sndrec32 | Click OK

Does the Sound Recorder open?

Do a Search on your machine for sndrec32.exe.

Thanks. The file was located in the Windows Service Pack folder in a file
helpfully named 1638.

Thank you. Once I was able to access the sound recorder it worked fine but
only allowed 60 seconds of recording. I have dowloaded and tested the
encoder and can see how much more capable it is. This is just what I needed!

Is there a copy of sndrec32.exe in System32?

Start | Run | Type: system32 | Click OK |

Hit S and N on your keyboard real quick.

That should take you right to sndrec32.exe

The shortcut to sndrec32.exe in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\
Programs\Accessories\Entertainment
should have %SystemRoot%\system32\sndrec32.exe as the target.

To add a shortcut...
Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK..

%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Entertainment

Right click a blank spot in the right hand pane, point to New and click
Shortcut.
Paste this in the box:

%SystemRoot%\system32\sndrec32.exe

Click Next | Change the name to Sound Recorder if you like | Click Finish
