Missing option to save or remember name and password

This problem may have more to do with Windows then
Messenger (4.7.2009). I just got this new computer
preinstalled with XP. I already have a .NET Passport
account, so I ran the .NET Passport Wizard to add my
login, and I chose the "Associate my Passport with my
Windows user account" option. But, when I open Messenger
it prompts me for both my sign-in name and password, and
no checkbox to save them.

Any suggestions? Did my company modify something in the
registry to prevent this?

Thanks,
dw

Greetings DW,

Yes there is a system policy to prevent this from happening. However, assuming you have
permissions on your PC to do so, you can simply download and run the following .reg file to
restore it:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablenetcreds.reg

You'll need to reboot to see the change.

Thanks. I actually found the registry entry (below). Once
I enabled it, it fixed the problem. It required a restart
to work.

Registry Setting: Enable/Disable Storage of Credentials
and .NET Passwords
System Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
Value Name: DisableDomainCreds
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = enable storage (default), 1 = disable
storage)
