Missing Mouse

Somehow I have managed to have a working keyboard but no mouse. I have
tried replacing the mouse with spare one - same problem. I was hoping
to use "last known good configuration" but can't select that, just Safe
Mode or normal boot. I thought I would try a back up restore but don't
seem able to tick the appropriate box without a Mouse !!!
TIA

Have you tried a USB or serial port mouse. I have a system with a
damaged PS/2 connector that refuses to "see" a PS/2 mouse"

As for navigating without a mouse see here

I also had a dead mouse port, apparently on some towers, the 5 volt fuse or
equivalent dies. Some motherboards have a push restore, others not. With a
simple voltmeter you can confirm if there is any power on the port.

The simple solution is to use a usb mouse but some bios do not recognize it
until the os boots.

Thanks Rob and Steve for the help but unfortunately, for me anyway,
things aren't too much better. In reply to Rob, I have looked at the
BIOS and the PS/2 mouse function setting claims to be enabled,
however I am not overly sure as regarding the IRQ settings. On that
page, (pnp/pci configuration),
PNP OS Installed : Yes
Resources controlled by : Manual
Reset Configuration Data : Disabled
ACPI I/O Node : Enabled
IRQs 3 & 4 are assigned to Legacy ISA
IRQs 5,7,9,10,11,12,14,15 are all assigned to PCI/ISA PnP.

The mouse does not appear in the Device Manager or anywhere in the
Hardware Wizard.
I have tested the mice?? on another computer and both are fine, I also
checked that the correct drivers are present in the troublesome computer,
and they are...
Steve thanks for the pointer to the article about negotiating windows
without a mouse, as truely, none of this information would have been
possible for me to get without your help.
So now to the big question - can any off you bear to help me any further
on this..

Thanks for your time and best regards,
