I have installed Word 2003 on two occassions. When I test a document with a
misspelled work - th instead of the - and then check spelling - I get nothing
as though my dictionary is not present. When I compose a new E-Mail and
spell check - I get a list of suggestions

Any help

Ctrl+A then tools > language > set language > set it to the language you
have the dictionary installed for and uncheck the do not check spelling of
grammar and automatically detect language check boxes.

That is not the problem - when I type in a mispelled word and then
Tools > Spelling and Grammar
The resulting box does not give me any suggestions which indicates to me
that the main dictionary is not being recognized
I beleive that it is there since the other Office 2003 products receive
suggestions

Did you try it? Word cannot spell check any text that isn't formatted with a
proofing language and has the option set to check it as described no matter
how bad your spelling.
