Missing Icons in Folder Pane in Windows Explorer

Has anyone seen this? In a Win XP Pro class at school, using removable HD's,
we installed XP Pro. On instructors system, one install is missing the icons
in the folder pane of Windows Explorer (only shows folder names &
expand/colapse symbols). But the other install is fine (what I mean by
"other" is there are 2 classes, one daytime class & one night time class. So
she has 2 separate HD's) Is this a setting that can be changed?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,

Common issue.

The Folders Bar in Windows Explorer Does Not Contain Any Icons

Adaptation for the Article: Needs to be a path not a drive letter, so subst
c: [x]:\. Note backslash converts a drive letter to a path. It must point
to a valid folder as in: c: d:\Windows
