missing file

When I went on holiday I shut my computer down properly.
On returning, booted up the computer only to get this
message:- Windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt
\windows\system32\config\system
Put in xp disc then press 'r' from the first screen to
repair.
Nothing happens when 'r' is pressed. Can anyone tell me a
simple way of accessing this file to fix it??

First you have to enter your bios settings to select that your cd-drive
should be the first driver to be read, otherwise your cd ain't gonna be read,
so you will not enter the repair mode.
I really don't remeber witch F key it is to enter the bios at the start up
F2, F6, F8, but you can view it when you start up. When enter your bios find
the path to change cd-drive to be the first choise. Standard it is A:\ fore
first choise, switch that with cd-drive
