Missing Audio after Reformat

I tried posting this on the gigabyte group , but didn't receive any replies.
Any suggestions would be appreciated...

A friend gave me a computer with the GA-7VM400M Gigabyte Motherboard when
they upgraded to a new machine.
As far as I know , the audio was working fine.
I reformatted and reinstalled Windows after receiving the machine , but the
onboard audio isn't working.

The info from Device Manager has a yellow flag beside the C-Media AC97 Audio
Device.

Properties show

General Device can not start ( Code 10 )

Driver 5.12.1.50 Installed by Windows

Resource " Device isn't using any resources because it has a problem "

So far I have confirmed that it IS enabled in the bios

I've deleted it from Device Manager and on reboot, it's recognised and
Windows tries to re install it , but fails.

Before the reformatting , I installed a video card , but I have since
removed it and tried again , with the same results ( no go on the audio).
I know the 2 probably aren't related , but it was the only major change to
the system so it seemed logical to try without it.

It seems it might be a hardware problem with the audio itself ?. It's not
really a big deal because I'm using it as a backup computer that doesn't
really need sound anyway , but of course, if I could get it work , that
would be great. I'm just not sure if I've overlooked something , or
something's turned off that should be on ? I don't have a manual.

TIA !

It is simple, the AC 97 audio is a Realtek chipset on the MoBo.
This is the site:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

Download the AC 97 software
Direct where you want to save to -
Desktop or My Documents etc
It will create a folder.
Once download is complete, open the downloaded folder
All you do is locate the setup executable and double click it.
(It will be named "Setup.exe" or just "SetUp")
That will now self-extract and install drivers and codecs etc.
All you do is at some point you will have to click to agree
to a license agreement.
Once complete, close all windows, your audio will function.
The Realtek AC 97 audio chipset is very easy to get up and
functioning.

Bless you Sister !!
Your efforts will not go unrecognised.
I was ' confused ' because Windows said it had installed the
driver...obviously it wasn't the correct one.
All is fine now , thanks to YOU !

Gigabyte page for the drivers. Quidado! There are different revisions which are marked on
the motherboard.
