Audio drivers

I have no sound on my pc because my audio device's driver is not installed.
The problem is that I don't know wich device my pc has (but I know it's got
one coz it was working before I upgraded to XP Pro) and, apparently, nor does
my dispositive manager.
Can someone let me know how can I sort this out? Maybe some web page with a
product detection tool for audio devices?? I'm open to all suggestions.
Thanx.

Everest Home Edition is a hardware/software inventory tool. It
should be able to give you details on your hardware. Latest is
available at:

If your PC is a Commercial OEM (Gateway, Dell), you can or
should get drivers directly from them. Most all OEM PC's have
a unique Service Express code or something similar. Typing in
that code on the Vendor's website will take you to the drivers
and support software download page.

How about some more information. Is it a sound card or is the
sound system built into the motherboard. What make of motherboard?
What happens when the Add/Remove Hardware applet is used to install
the sound card drivers and did it identify the audio device? And
keep your fingers crossed that the audio system is common enough
so that Windows XP drivers have been written for it.
