Minimizing more than one site . .

Guest

I often find it necessary to go from one site to another. I have tried to
minimize one site, and then go to another . . . I'm unable to do this with
Vista.
Perhaps, I have to do more than just click onto minimize.
Can someone help me with this . . it is so time consuming to have to go back
and logon to the first site.

Thanx,

Thanx,

What browser are you using? Both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox have
tabbed browsing. Look in the respective programs' Help files for "tabbed
browsing" to see how to use this feature.

OK Malke . . I just went to IE browsing . . I don't know which one to check
in order for me to minimize more than one, and not lose it.
Can you help with that? Sorry, I'm at a loss when it comes to making these
changes.
I'm always afraid to mess things up.

Thanx,

I think you might be a bit confused about the tabs in IE, and you are
instead dealing with multiple instances of IE. You cannot actually minimise
the tabs within IE, but you can minimise an instance of IE itself. Maybe
you should grab the nearest 12 year old and get them to explain it to you.

Sorry . . I don't know what you are telling me Synapse. I thought this was a
forum for help . . I guess not.
I'll ask my question again, and hope that someone will give me a proper
answer.

Sorry, I did not mean to be rude. It is just hard to describe what I was
trying to say using text, and getting a real person to show you might be
easier. And 12 year olds can use computers intuitively.

debarybabs - Everything you need can be found here -

Start>Help and Support>scroll down to "Joys of tabbed web browsing" and go
from there. Good luck, Wayne

Thank you Wayne . . I will try that.

Synapse . . I know about the 12 year olds. Unfortunately, there aren't any
in my area.
My children and grandchildren live in another state.

I will try to do this on my own. I've managed before . . I just don't like
to do the wrong thing, and mess things up.

debarybabs - Sorry for giving the wrong answer first time. On rereading your
original post, I see that you want to minimize windows to the tray so you can
go between them at will.
This is possible with Vista. You minimize one page that you want to revisit,
then logon to another page and do the same as many times as the tray will
allow.
Are you saying this can't be done on your machine or that you don't know how?
There is much on minimizing windows in "Help and Support". But if you have a
particular problem post with more detail. Wayne

I tried to minimize one site, and then go on the another, so that I could
refer back to the first site for data. The first site went away as soon as I
logged on to the second site. This is very important to me in my business.
I need to compare the data from one site to another many times during the
day.
When I had XP, I was able to minimize three or four different data sites at
one time. I would like to do this again.
Do I have to do another step in order to do this with my new Vista?
Minimizing is a very helpful tool for me in my business.
Can you help walk me thru the steps I must take to accomplish this.

Thank you so much . . .

Thanx,

I think Malke and Wayne have already given you the solution but also
from my understanding of your requirement you really need to make use of
the 'tabbed browsing' facility available in Internet Explorer 7 ( but
not avbl in earlier versions ) which is a much slicker way of having
multiple web sites up at one time.

Look in
Internet Options - General - 'Tabs' section Settings.
Is the 'Enable Tabbed Browsing' check box checked ? If not then click
on it and OK that. (Change any other settings there to suit)

You can then open separate sites in the one Internet Explorer window and
just select the appropriate tab at the top to jump between those sites.

You can either allow links to come up in new tabs, or use that small
blank 'new tab' square to open one ready for you to enter a new URL, or
force a new tab by pressing Ctrl when clicking on a link. The tab
currently in use has an X which closes that site if/when required.

Tabbed browsing was introduced in IE7, which comes with Vista, to
obviate the use of separate Internet Explorer windows/instances. Give it
a go.

Then again if I've misunderstood what you are after . . . .

Tom . . thank you once again for your help. I had the tabbed box checked
already. I didn't know about the CTRL when clicking onto another link that I
want to leave open with the other. I 've tried it, and it's working . .

Blessings to you Tom . . this will make my work day run more smoothly . .
what a time saver for me!!

Thanx again

You're welcome - if you have a number of sites you often use together
you might want to investigate 'tab groups', that is a group of sites in
Favorites that will all open together - a few more seconds saved in a
busy day.
