Microsoft XP Recovery Console

Installed XP PRO somt time ago and it has now failed with Partition Magic
error 1516. Tried to sort problem using the XP setup CD but after making
some fixes CHKDSK gave up completely at 50% of check.
I am now stuck for admin password at Recovery Console. Problem is I don't
know the password, indeed none of my computers, which are all Administrator
only (no other users, guests) have passwords that I know of. I have
installed the operating system myself on all of them.
Read an article that stated password is blank or "no password", however I
can't get passed the request for password.
Help please as I don't want to format and start again.

If you never set up a password, then just leave blank and hit Enter and
continue.

That's whta I did and have just done.
Specifically the instruction is:
"Type the Administrator password:
C:\Windows (followed by non-blinking cursor mark (square))"
