Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse

I tried to get some information at the hardware group but to no avail. I
have the wireless notebook mouse plugged into the USB on my Dell Latitude 810
running Windows XP Pro. The mouse worked fine for a short time and now it
stops working intermittently. Changed the battery and that has not solved
the problem.

Any ideas?

Check the USB port is not being turned off to "save power" (Device
Manager) Good USB connection at plug. And no radiating interfering
equipment around the laptop area.

How do you know if the USB port has been turned off to save power? Also,
would it matter much if I used a USB port on the laptop itself or on the Port
Replicator I am using?

Device manager, Universal Serial Bus controles, USB root hub,
Properties, power management, UNcheck the box for "Allow the computer to
....."
