Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 wired optical mouse

After slightly over two years of trouble free operation, left-click button
suddenly quit working. Have followed all troubleshooting tips, uninstalled
and reinstalled using original CD, updated driver, etc. Troubleshooting
indicates "device is working properly" but left-click button useless.
Mouse continues to function properly for scrolling and right-clicks. How
can I restore function of left-click button? Is it time to replace this
mouse?

A - try another mouse on the PC - does it work correctly?

B - try the mouse in question on another PC - does it also not left click
there?

that will tell you if it's hardware or software. Most likely the mouse
button has gone to rodent heaven.
