Microsoft Antispyware Suggestions for Improvement

T

Thomas Huff

These are just a few items I feel would improve the
product greatly if incorporated:

1. The ability to update via a port other than 80. An
example would be port-80 being blocked on a LAN to prevent
internet surfing. In doing this, Microsoft Antispyware can
no longer reach the internet to update. Although
applications like Symantec have no problem.
2. Add an option like "Update Now" to the context menu of
the tray icon for those of us who do not allow updates to
run automatically. This way, the program does not have to
be opened to run the update.
3. Add a switch to the executable to kill the splash
screen upon launching the application. This benefits
those administators of us that have to access systems
remotely via remote desktop, pcAnywhere, VNC, etc.
Symantec added this capability to pcAnywhere, and it is a
real time saver when loading the application while
connected remotely.
4. Implement a warning such as that which exists with Zone
Alarms firewall that alerts you if the service is shut
down or disabled.
5. Add the option to password protect the settings,
therefore keeping corporate workstations from being
modified by curios employees.

These are just a few enhancements for now that I feel
would greatly improve the functionality of the product for
us administators out here. Thank you for taking the time
to read and consider these suggestions.

They've now announced that there will be a corporate version controlled by
Group Policy and with a management console. It is possible that some
features might differentiate that product.

Nice list!
