After installing antispyware beta, ran scan and deleted,
i started having problems with outlook express. Getting
error "A time-out occurred while communicating with the
server. Account: 'yahoo mail',
Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19d" and since did
recent update on spyware, I always get this error message
and program will not connect to server. Running XP Pro,
SBC yahoo dial as ISP. My Yahoo mail account works ok.
ISP says they have no problem and a PC tech advised me
that my ISP had put all kinds of spyware in my pc and
that the beta program in removing spyware must have
deleted a dll file. Disabling beta and Norton's and
doing system restore was no help. Have also recently put
in service pack 2. What is my next step, rather than
reinstalling windows XP?

The reason why this is happening to you sounds like your
outlook express's settings have not be configured. If
you're wanting to use outlook express to download your
yahoo mail, look somewhere on yahoo and try to find the
settings for their pop.mail account. Then, enter those
settings into your account along with your username and
password. You'll have to configure the pop and the smtp
settings. I've never found any spyware to hijack or
change email configuration settings. Perhaps these
settings were not initially configured correctly.

Thanks Rick for your suggestion, but this has already
been done. I have been downloading my Yahoo mail for some
time to outlook express, with no problem. The problem
happened when I installed this beta program and deleted
what it considered spyware. Not only will outlook express
not connect to the server, but I am getting screen
freezes and when I try to restart or shut down pc, I get
pop up that says ccApp still running. Most times, I now
have to reboot from tower. This should not happen!!! It
appears that the spyware program has deleted some files
that are necessary for programs to work. Have deleted
beta program and done restore, but this has not helped.

ccApp is a component of Norton AntiVirus (NAV). I suggest you
uninstall NAV, and if that fixes the problem, reinstall NAV.
NAV has been known to interfere with email downloads.

Shirley - I can't tell from your posts whether you have Internet
connectivity at all.

If you have no Internet connectivity, here's a fix for a problem which can
be caused by the removal of spyware:

You are running Windows XP, Service Pack 2.

Go to a command prompt. One way to do this is to do start, run, type in
CMD, and hit enter.

at the command prompt type:

netsh winsock reset

and hit enter
restart your machine.

This should restore Internet connectivity. You may need to reinstall
certain software which adds itself to the Winsock stack--see what works and
what doesn't.
