Microphone won't record

Hi
I am unable to record with my microphone into sound recorder nor does it
pick up sound when i am testing it in trouble shooter or trying to use it in
msn. I have tried every thing that has been posted on this site. I have
made sure it is pluged in properly it is not muted and i can not think of
anything elso to do. I have tried two microphones and both have worked
previously. It has happened before and i am sure the solution was so simple!
I can't remember exactly when it stopped working (Was ages ago!).
TIA

Have you considered that it maybe a problem with the jack you are
plugging into?

Could be a physical problem, and could be it is a dual use jack that you
have to set it as a mic in jack in the driver properties.

Have you tested the microphone by plugging it into another device to see
if works in that? Then test Kurt's idea by plugging a known good mic
into your 'puter to see if it works. Can you record into something like
audacity from a tape recorder?
