Microphone does not work

I just bought a new headset and plugged it in. I can hear perfectly fine
through the headphones but the microphone will not work. I went into the
sound options made sure it was selected under playback and recording, unmuted
it, turned its volume all the way up and whatnot. My sound drivers are all
updated for my NVIDIA nForce. In the sound options to set-up a microphone it
does not pick up any sound, nor does it pick up any sound in the sound
recorder. And yes, the plugs are in the right spots.

Hello,

Ensure your mic is connected to the correct jack and is not muted.

Its also possible that what you talk into your mic will not come through
your speakers due to hardware limitations. To verify this, try doing a
recording with your mic and playback the recorded clip.

I hope this helps.I was having the same isue with my mic not working. and
looking in help on my computer was no help bc it told me to go on "speech" in
control panel and click on speech recognition but theres no such thing on
windows xp!. so I went to "sounds and audio devices" and clicked on voice at
the top. checked if they were muted, and if the volume was too low than went
to "test hardware" and followed the intructions. after that i was all up and
runing and it was working again.
