Messenger voice kills my downloads

Hi all

The problem starts when i upgrate to version 6.1 and still with the 6.2
under xp sp2.
When start a voice conversation any download get very slow. If i was
downloading a file at 80kb the download reach 4 or 6kb. Monitoring the the
bandwith used by the voice conversation it take around 5/10kb no more so
seems no a problem of a occupied bandwith.
Any suggestion?

Are you using a 56Kb/sec modem or ADSL Wideband connection to your ISP?

Sem,
With ADSL 1Mb/sec download speed you should not normally have problems with
Instant Messenger Voice and file downloads. Have you checked you ADSL
speed? McAfee have a page which tests your system, see
http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/test_3000.asp. There is a further
site http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks where you can check your system.

Hi, yes my speed is ok, but seems "something" linked to the voice
conversation that slow down.
I had no such a problem before the sp2.

Sem,
I have Windows XP Home upgraded to SP and an ADSL connection (download speed
750 Kb/sec). I can use Windows or MSN Messenger Voice without the download
speed of files being affected.
So I doubt the problem is connected with the SP2 upgrade. I am not an
expert, just a novice quoting my own experience.

Re-reading you OP I see that you suspect MSN 6.1 or 6.2 with SP2. I didn't
mention that my version of MSN Messenger is 6.2.0205 and Windows Messenger
is 4.7.3000
