message deletes when I close

I don't want messages in my inbox to delete unless I hit delete. But some
messages (I can't find the pattern) automatically delete when I close the
message. How can I stop this?

Perhaps they are actually meeting requests? They can be set to do that
after you reply.

No, they are not meeting requests.

How are you sure they are being deleted? Are you finding them in the Deleted
Items folder, or are they 'missing'?

How are you reading mail, directly in the Inbox or in the Unread Messages
search folder?

What version of Outlook? What type of mail server?

I don't know if they are in deleted items folder. Will check next time it
happens. They dissappear from inbox on screen. I can find them again by
going to "IMAP" under "current view" instead of "hide messages marked for
deletion", then I just "undelete" under "edit" and go back to "hide messages
marked for deletion" (to preserve my sanity).
Reading directly in the inbox. I don't know what kind of server.

so they are marked for deletion? (IMAP deleted items do not go into the
deleted items folder).

Are you forwarding these messages? There is an option to not save forwarded
messages (in tools, options, email options).

Thanks. I didn't find exactly a "delete forwards" there. There was a "save
forwards" which was selected. There were some other "delete" options and I
turned them all off. We'll see what happens.
