"Message and Item Previewer error"

Guest

I am getting this error message when I try to preview an attached email
message:
"Microsoft Office Outlook Message and Item Previewer error"
and it won't allow me to see the attached message. There isn't anything in
this message that is being "blocked" and I checked the Attachment Handler and
it is on. The ext .msg which is associated with Outlook, but I am wondering
if another program on my computer is causing this error like Nero 7 or
something. I tried the repair option to fix it from my cd, but it still is
present. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks!

Are you usng Outlook 2003 SP3? Do you have Google Desktop Search installed?
The latest version of GDS doesn't play well with Outlook 2003 SP3 and you
can't view .msg files.
If this is the case, uninstall GDS.
If not, please post back.

Thank you, I searched online and found out to unistall the GDS and my Outlook
2007 preview works fine now. Just in case you didn't know, the removal of
that software will fix both versions of Outlook 2003 and 2007. I appreciate
the sage advice and yes it works!
Thanks!

You do not need to uninstall GD in Outlook 2007. Go to tools | trust center
| add-ins.
Select com add-ins. Uncheck GD.
Select Exchange client extensions. Uncheck GD

You can still use GD in Windows.

Many, many thanks for this tip!

And a major curse on Microsoft for making Outlook 7 incompatible with Google
Desktop Search.

If they keep this up, I will uninstall Outlook and go to Open Office.

"GD" means "Google Desktop Search".

Mister "Gadget" Thanks a lot

Like all the others - I face this problem for a long time - i notice that
this is GD problem 3 weeks ago - but now I got your great answer

I have one question

What happned now - did the google desktop search will stop indexing my mail?

if yes - this is a good answer that crreate a bigger probelm

The only reason for using GD is indexing my mails (i got 8G on my mail - and
GD save me when searching this PST's)

The prior version of GDS doesn't seem to cause this problem. See if you can
download a prior version.

Dear Brian

I prefer to stay with the current GD version

Did you know the answer for my question about - "does GD still indexing my
emails?"

Not if you've disabled that part of the indexing so you can see the
attachments.

Got exactly the same pb.
Download & install the latest Google Desktop 5.7.0801.01629-en-pb
Don't need to change anything in Outlook settings.
GD and Outlook previewer for email attachment work fine.

Good tip, 'Gadget'!!! One further step that can be done is to disable ONLY
the Exchange client extension - that seems to be the culprit. We can leave
the COM add-in checked - this will enable us to use GD within Outlook as
usual!

that works as long as you aren't use Exchange :)
