memtest86 - can't seem to get it to work

HI, I had recently put a post up to say that my PC wasn't working right. Many
of you suggsted that i should check the memory etc. However, I am still
unable to get this software to work (memtest86).

As i dont have a floppy dive, i cannot create a start up disk with this, so
have to use CD. My bios settings are that first boot is CD, however when i
burn the memtest software onto disk, zipped and unzipped just encase, it
starts as normal and doesn't appear to do anything. I have tried buring it
with windows default buring software and with nero, but neither seems to make
it work.

I have also tried doing this on another macheine thats works fine, but again
doesn't work.

Many Thanks to all who suggested this software, but can someone now try and
help me get it to work?

Cheers,

You can't just copy an executable file to a CD (or a floppy for that matter)
and expect it to be bootable. You have to create a bootable CD.

http://www.memtest86.com/#download0 - download the iso
file, unpack so you have the iso on your hard drive. Use Nero
(which you indicate you have) File --> Burn image and point
it to the iso you unzipped. When it is done, that CD will be
bootable.

Very good instructions, but Memtest86 has long ago been replaced by
Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.

Thanks Malke !! I was not aware of the new version. Time
to replace the memtest86 cd I have with the new version.
