I have been looking for a new computer and this particular laptop is an Intel
Centrino Duo. It has a 1024 MB DDR2 memory and 160 GB Hard drive (from Best
Buy) ($599.99)

There is another laptop at Staples that has an AMD 64 X2 Athlon. It has a 1GB
RAM and a 80GB hard drive. ($497.98)

Which one is better?

I think it comes down to the processor. You could always get more memory -
Best Buy is selling 1024 MB DDR2 for $39. The hard drives are both large -
depends on how much stuff you need to put on it.

Of course, I can't say much about which processor is better - they change
names all the time, and when I'm not looking to buy a computer I ignore
them. Maybe someone else can help you with that.

I'd pick the Intel.
But, how much Graphics is there? And is it shared out of the 1024MBs RAM
Remember Home Premium takes 128MBs minimum to run Aero.

There's no way answer your question from the information you've provided.
When it comes to laptops, there's a lot more that differentiates them than
just those specs.
