Memory not reading properly

I am running an ECS motherboard and have fitted 512Mb of DDR memory,
yet it read as 266. I replaced this with another brand and same result.
I have even put in a 256 stick and this came out as 66Mb. I am
obviously missing something. I wondered if the memory sticks were
buffered and the mothrboard can't handle buffered memory but I cannot
find any identifier to confirm this.

Can anyone confirm my suspicions or direct me to where the problem may
lie?

How about finding the model of the mb and going to the ECS site to get the
specs. Use Belarc Advisor or Everest, or Aida 32 software programs to help
identify your mb if you can't locate its number on the mb directly.

Sorry, didn't make it clear. I know the motherboard type and have the
manual. The reason for my belief that the fault lies with buffered
memory is that the motherboard manual states it won't work. What I
cannot identify is if the memory I have is buffered or not; therefore
is the fault down to buffering or something else completely.

If the motherboard isn't new say 3-4 years old you might have trouble with
it seeing all the memory. It has to do with low and high densities of the
DIMMs.

Thought I would come back and let any future reader know that the issue
is BIOS. Flash it with the new BIOS available from ECS and the whole
memory is available. A little known comment buried at the bottom of the
flash update window tells you this!

sounds just like ECS, glad you got it fixed
