memory could not be read error in W2K

Windows 2000 pro, SP4, all current updates. (sorry for posting it here but I
could not find W2K group).

When logging a warning message pops up: The drive or network connection that
the shortcut *Adobe Reader Speed Launch.Ink* refers to is unavailable. Make
sure the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and
then try again.

When trying to start SigmaPlot application I get the following error
message: *The instruction "0x0093dcee" referenced memory @ "0x05c4ff78" could
be read. Click "OK" to terminate the program.*

I do not know if the two are related. The first one showed after trying to
update to Adobe Reader 8 and failed. I discovered the second error message
*memory could not be read* after the first one, but it may be a meaningless
coincidence.

I have tried to uninstall all instances of Adobe Reader and reinstall the
last one, no change. I have a few other Adobe programs installed and hate
uninstalling them all. The second issue is more serious as I cannot start
SigmaPlot. I have tried to uninstall it and install on a different drive
partition, no change.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bob,

The link is to a discussion in Windows servers, older versions. How on Earth
anybody can guess that this is supposed to be W2K OS? Nobody goes there,
well, almost nobody.

Not a problem, the issue you are seeing is a result of using that "Web
Interface" to view what is really a regular newsgroup. Here is the
direct link if you want to use a newsreader like most of the regulars.
