memory & 2.0 usb upgrade

Dan

xp home / pavilion 310n came with software preinstalled
1.1 gig intel celeron processor 40 gig hard drive
128 mb sdram & has (4) 1.1 usb ports from factory.
operation normal until i installed (2) 256 sdram sticks
(pny)= 512 ram. also installed belkin hi-speed 3 port pci
2.0 usb card. attempted install 4 times after each time
system would shut down to "prevent possible damage" to
computer. after each time was unable to perform system
restore or perform non-destructive recovery each time a
major file would either be corrupt or missing and would
prevent windows from installing. only way i was able to
recover was to reload all 7 discs that i got from
manufacture if i install just the memory all seems okay,
but if i install the 2.0 port the far as i was able to
get was to plug scanner into port and system shut down
saying that system 32 config files were missing. each
time its a different file but regardless it is enough to
prevent windows from starting up and causing me to have
to reinstall operating system. i'm out of $$$ and need
professional advice....if you think your the pro that can
hel please respond or call me at 626.281.2316 or
626.393.7021 pasadena area. ask for Dan help greatly
appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm an amateur, but:

Check the memory recommended for your machine at www.crucial.com. (That's
the retail arm of Micron Technologies.)

At a guess, the PNY DIMMs are high-density memory, and won't work in your
PC. You'll need to get that squared away before it makes sense to
troubleshoot the USB card.

Good luck.
