Medieval total war loss of performance

Hi, I just did an XP home upgrade and MTW does not function properly now. It's been a month since I have updated windows so whatever I added must be the problem

The game now has choppy frame rates and it takes holding the mouse button down to make any option selected work. Before these updates were added the game ran just fine, as a matter of fact exceptionally

I have gotten an error message twice. I believe it was something to do with windows media player. However, when it asked to send the error message I could not use any of the options available because it locked up my system and I had to reboot both times

Also, when trying to play some web based movies the windows media player displays "ambiance water" and says there is an error. This is followed by media player shutting down and also windows internet explorer windows disappearing

After playing some other games that seem to have not been affected, the desktop takes awhile for the icons to appear.

Also they (icons) will not arrange by name in proper order. Meaning I cannot get them into alphabetical order

I've tried disk defragmentation and reinstalling the program to no avail. I've also tried hardware acceleration options and have not seen any difference. DXDIAG shows no problems and all hardware is working properly

Hi Uther,

Since you suspect an update, and this condition has only
begun a month ago, I suggest you use restore to set your
system back to the condition it was in at that time.
