I don't think it's your Windows Media Player which is at fault,
since those games don't use those players to render the 3D
graphics you see during the games. Here's some basic advice:

1. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need

4. Test your RAM using:

after you extract that zip file, click on the README.txt file for the
instructions on how to create the boot floppy to test your RAM.

| The problem started about a month ago when I installed medieval total war. I played about 2-3 without a problem adn then one day
the game started to freeze mainly to the 3d section ( battle section ). I checked the usual things like directx version, drivers (
sound, video, motherboard ) but the problem just remained. I' ve tried to figure out what major changes I did to the system or the
game prior of the problem: First i installed a dvd player ( Intervideo i think ) and second I changed the resolution of the game (
from 800*600 to 1280*860 ). Also my desktop resolution is 1280*860. I thought maybe the problem is game/ medieval related so i
tested another game: simcity 4 deluxe edition. Again this time I played normally for about 20 hours before the problem appears
again: game freezes. I havent changed the in -game or desktop resolution but I've re-installed the Intervideo dvd - player. The
problem reapperad after 20-30 hours of game time. I have uninstalled the player but the problem persists. I am starting to think if
I have damaged somehow the Windows Media Player by installing a seperate dvd - player or the games just save in their settings a
specific resolution when installed and if this parameter is changed then the whole game just crashes.
