mediaplayer and therefore Powerpoint errors when playing .mpeg mov

PPT 2003 errors and shutsdown when trying to play mpg movies. Have folllowed advice on Sonia Colemans website but nothing works.

Media player (mci) also errors, on this brand new laptop running XP home. Tried decreasing graphics accelleration, tried safe mode. Checked it supports this device type extension. Every setting and codec is exactly the same as my old laptop, which will play it fine. All this PC has installed is Office 2003 pro and some personal files, as well as standard HP software inclusions.

Can play the file type with Windows media player, but not media player.
