Inserting MPEG file into powerpoint

Insert - Movies and Sounds - Movie from file problem as movie does not play.
I have tried inserting as a Media Clip Object but having just acquired a new
laptop the option "Media Clip" has gone from the options available. I have
read a Microsoft article that says that this is due to SSP2 however the
Workaround suggested does not work.
The movie will pay in Windows Media Player but not in MCI Media Player.
I am losing my hair as I seem to be going round in circles and no-one I ask
at work has any answer.

I downloaded PFCmedia but it converted my MPEG files to WMV and the quality
was terrible.
Does anyone know the maximum size of file Powerpoint is capable of playing?
I assume that depends upon what the MCI Media Player can cope with?
