McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1 SP 1 webscanx.exe fails with Windows XP SP 2 beta

I understand that XP SP 2 is a beta version but I would be pleased to hear
how anyone else has got on with this software combination.

What about Norton 2004 with XP SP 2 ? I may buy that if it works ok in that
environment.

Thanks

Unless it is a non-production PC you should NOT install a beta version of a Service Pack.

Are you an experienced Software Tester ?

I believe they pulled the webscan component in later versions due to
problems "hooking" into IE reliably.
Never ran VS 4.51 on windows XP - went to Virus Scan 7 enterprise -
its based on the Netshield for NT product line rather than the Virus
scan line, VS7E doesn't run on anything less than NT4SP6a but runs on
all workstation/server versions after this (ie "real" 32 bit, rather
than the win9x or winme platforms) - currently runnig it on a range of
machines, from NT4 workstations to 2003 server.

It also appears faster - but thats only a subjective impression -
haven't actually speed tested it.

(VS7 Enterprise isn't the same product as the retail Virus scan 7)

The problems with Enterprise v7.x are...

It no longer interprets VSC files.
It uses multiple NT Services rather than just one service such as 'avsynmgr'
It "wants" to be used in conjunction with ePO.
The ASCII log files provide too much JUNK into the log.

The good points.

Smaller RAM profile
Less resources consumed
It's faster
Works on both workstations and servers.
