McAfee problem

I got a virus yesterday which was not picked up by my scanner somehow.
I sent it to McAfee and they said to download a DAT file and follow the on
screen instructions. This I have done, but when it tries to install the DAT
file tells me I have no qualifying mcafee products. That is not true and I
must have to have sent them the virus in the first place.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to get round the problem?

You left out very important infornmation.

What is your version of McAfee VirusScvan ?

What exactly did mcAfee tell 'ya to download ?
Was it the SuperDAT ?
Was it an EXTRA.DAT ?

McAfee Internet security suite 2006 8.0

I downloaded the both

SuperDAT and the ExtraDAT just in case.

I checked my fiels and there is no Network associates folder to put the
extraDAT in.

OK. That's better. You have a Retail version of McAfee VirusScan and that is incompatible
with the SuperDAT installer -- sorry.

Download the EXTRA.DAT file from https://www.webimmune.net/extra/getextra.aspx by entering
js/yamanner@mm in the detection name field and clicking on "Add" and the "Get Extra.dat".

Now search for the file SCAN.DAT in the "C:\Program Files\" folder.

When you find the subfolder where SCAN.DAT is located, that is the Engine folder.
On my PC that folder is...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates\Engine

Save the file EXTRA.DAT in the same folder where SCAN.DAT is located then reboot your PC.
Upon reboot, your PC will be using the signatures in the EXTRA.DAT and you should perform a
full scan of your computer.



Below is the contents of the referenced EXTRA.DAT file which any McAfee user can Copy and
Paste and subsequently create an EXTRA.DAT file...
