Maxtor 6 Y200P0 SCSI Disk Device

I'm wondering if there is a way In Windows XP, to use the Maxtor 6 Y200P0
SCSI HD that normally connects to the Promise ATA/133 Controller card,
without actually using the card. I'd like this HD to be the slave, attached
on the same cable as my other HD but I don't want to use the PCI controller
card if possible.
Thanks--Dave
Not a big hardware guy, but as far as I know, you need a SCSI controller
if you want to use a SCSI drive. Also, the cables are different, so you
can't just plug your existing ATA cable into your SCSI drive. At the
very least, you will need some kind of adapter.

Howdy GateKeeper,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually the cable is the same as my other drive, standard ATA 133 flat
cable that plugged into the Promise Controller Card in a PCI slot.

Both drives show in the BIOS, when I put both HD's on the one cable, but
windows doesn't find it. Maybe it has something to do with using the Maxtor
utility to format and partition the drive when I first purchased it ...
possibly it left some information or footprint on the HD.

I'll keep doing some checking and see what I can come up with.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave - I too did the same thing and had a hard time with the whole thing.
Use the cd that came with your new hd - make sure you have the cables set and
the jumpers set correctly - master/slave. Maxtor also has a web site that has
good info but I believe that Seagate bought Maxtor - their website(SG) also
has good info. I know it is frustrating I spend days on reworking mine. Good
luck with that - hope I gave you some info to go on. Craig

Just jumper the Maxtor drive as slave, and connect it to the IDE cable
from the motherboard.

XP infers the Maxtor is a scsi device. It is not. Reason, the add-on ide
controller card. Treat the Maxtor like any other ide hard drive when
installing in a PC.
