Maxtor 3100 USB Hard Drive not recognized in XP Pro

I'm not sure what drivers I'm searching for. As I mentioned before, th
machine it works on never prompted for a driver install when the Maxto
3100 drive was first plugged-in. It just worked.

On the other XP Pro system, however, when I plug the Maxtor 3100 driv
in to the USB 2.0 port, Windows immediately reports that the device i
not recognized

Once more. Did the drive come with a CD? All are supposed to. The CD
has the required driver. If it works on one computer but not another
then it's possible the working one has a suitable driver. You can look
in the driver section of the system panel to see what is being used,
but best bet is to install the driver that came with the drive.

I have the same problem. A google search reveals many others have this problem also. *No* *none* drivers come with the drive, online drivers can only be found for win98 se. Mine is going back to the store.
