Marketing Campaigns

Hopefully someone can provide me with some information regarding the
marketing feature. After I create a new campaign it appears the only way for
an account/contact to be tagged as being part of that campaign is to set the
"Initiated By" field to the name of the campaign. If this is true it make
for a very serious problem. Namely, it completely eliminates the ability to
keep historical records of marketing campaigns since once you change the
"Initiated By" field it effectively de-couples the account or contact from
the previously selected marketing campaign. This doesn't make any sense to
me and appears to keep you from having more than one marketing campaign
going at a time and eliminates the ability for you to look at a campaign you
executed last year and see exactly who you targeted and which people
responded. Maybe I'm just not understanding things (and would be happy to be
corrected) but this appears to be a major design limitation to me.

Any thoughts on this are appreciated,
Scott

Scott:

If you're asking "how do I know I sent Bob Smith a specific email or
letter", then Yes, Marketing Campaigns in BCM don't do that. The Initiated
By field, in my humble opinion, is for linking "how did this new lead or
prospect find out about us (which campaign did they respond to)", or, "which
contact in my BCM database referred that person to us".

Our pinpoint Marketing tool will write a Communication History record in BCM
every time it sends out an email or prints a letter to a BCM contact. It
doesn't write a record when the campaign or Plan is applied to the contact.

Hope that helps,
Lon

Thanks for the response, Lon. By the way, I have your Dummies book and it is
excellent.

The problem with saying that linking is the normal use for the "Initiated
By" field is that it's kind of an after-the-fact thing. I already have the
accounts and contacts entered so running a marketing campaign and then
assigning them to it seems a little strange.

Thanks again,
Scott
