mapi32.dll error

Newbie running: XP SP2, Internet Explorer7, Outlook 2000

TROUBLESHOOT HISTORY:
I recently used "Windows Install CleanUp." to removed files from an aborted
installation of Outlook 2003.

(Right or Wrong?) I subsequently, used "Windows Install CleanUp"
because whenever I selected the mail icon in Internet Explorer7, "Windows
Setup"would launch and try to open the install window for Outlook 2003 .

PROBLEM:
Now whenever I use IE 7, to access my email I receive this error message:
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging software.
Please reinstall."

(Note, Outlook 2003 was never installed and thereby not found in the
"add/remove" program.)

And thankfully, Outlook 2000, works fine when launched independantly. I only
get the error message when accessing Outlook 2000 from within my web
browser.

QUESTION:
How can I make my browser launch Outlook 2000, again, without receiving
error messages?

"Search "found the following Mapi32.dll files on my computer:

mapi32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32 110 KB
MAPI32.DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 135 KB
MSMAPI32.DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 1,324 KB
MAPI32.DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\NT 128 KB

Do any of these files point to the problem?

Thank for your help,
Mac

Not a Windows issue.

"You receive a program conflict error message when you start Outlook
2000" http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;256946

"How to install or repair individual features of Office 2000"

If this doesn't help, ask here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general

I'm not sure its an Outlook issue because I do not receive the error when I
open Outlook 2000. I only receive the mapi32.dll error message when I access
email through Internet Explorer7.

IE uses the mail client as selected under Control Panel > Internet
Options > Programs tab > E-Mail. That list and the preferred mail client
are retrieved from this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\ and regarding MS Outlook:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook

These subkeys are created by the installed mail clients(!) and when
referring to the wrong mapi32.dll version, this is neither a WinXP nor
an Internet Explorer issue. Since you are discussing this question only,
I assume that your problem has been resolved due to the posted articles.

No the problem has not been resolved.

And so far, I have replaced the mapi.32dll file, hoping that would correct
the problem. It didn't.

Fortunately, I am able to use Outlook 2000, when NOT accessing mail through
my browser. I would just like to correct the problem, so that I can get
mail- using Internet Explorer7.

BTW, Outlook Express works fine with my browser.

Hi Mac,
I will Rename all of them to MAPI32.OLD and Shut down the machine wait a
minute and Restart and try to Open Outlook Express and see if it will create
the corrupted MAPI32.DLL.
Another to Try Repair reinstall Office or Run the sfc /scannow command.
