MAPI32.dll problems

From time to time I get the message from WindowsSearch: "The ordinal
49 could not be located in the dynamic linked library MAPI32.dll".

When starting Eudora, it says "Could not install Eudora MAPI because
MAPI.DLL and/or MAPI32.dll could not be renamed." But then Eudora
does work. But then on exit it says "Could not uninstall Eudora MAPI
system because MAPI.DLL and/or MAPI32.dll could not be renamed."

Something seems to have gone wrong with MAPI32.dll. I have three
copies of MAPI32.dll, one in I386, one in Windows\system32, and one in
program files\common files\system\msmapi\1033. All 3 are different
sizes. I thought that one might be marked "read only", not allowing
it to be renamed, but none are read only.

I'm using XP home, SP2.

How can I fix this problem?

Thank you very much for that information. Eudora has three settings
for its own MAPI:
1. never use it
2. use it when Eudora is running
3. always use it.

I was using option #2 (have been for a long time). If I change to
option #3, I don't get the error message. I can't change to option #1
or #2 because it gives me the error message again and won't let me
save with option 1 or 2.

Under \Windows\System\
there are several MAPI32 files. Mapistub.dll and mapi32.000 are
112,128 bytes. Mapi32.dll is 147,537 bytes. I assume that this is
Eudora's MAPI, because the MAPI32.dll file on the other two computers
here are the 112,228 byte file.

Should I rename or delete any of these MAPI files?

Without deleting rename those.

Thanks, I'll try that. I tried the program in the Eudora doc you
sent. but it couldn't install Eudora's MAPI. I'll try renaming.
