Malaware vs. Windows Explorer

I have Windows XP PRO SP2 and when I run Norton Antivirus 2005 it detects an
Adware.GAIN in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\HDPPlugin1015.dll, a file
which I can not display even by telling Windows Explorer to display all
"hidden" files, in fact only 12 files are displayed even though the
"Contains" item in the "Properties" of the "Downloaded Program Files" folder
shows that there are some 40 files in the folder! (Norton had already first
alerted me that only its program can detect it).

But then when I run the Norton suggested tool "Adware.GAIN Removal" from the
Norton web page, the tool can't locate it either!!! (However Norton keeps
identifying it on each sweep).

Does anybody have any suggestion as to how I can display the remaining
stealth files including the malaware HDPlugin1015.dll?

Thanks for the help!

Go through the following malware removal steps systematically. Do
everything with updated tools in Safe Mode.
