Making Sandisk CF non-removeable

S

Simon Wilton

I'm having trouble making a Sandisk CF card non-removeable. I have the
utility from Sandisk, but it does not seem to matter how I run it, I always
get the same error. Runnning the command (NDCFWCHG) only produces the list
of options. Any other option returns "Fail (error #20)". This is exactly the
same error I get if there is no CF card present.

I've run it direct under DOS, under XP and under W98 on 3 different
machines - one of which provides a 'raw' CF slot directly on the secondary
IDE channel. All machines have an HDD on the primary IDE channel. Where am I
going wrong?

TIA

SanDisk has a new revision of the card out - the "Athens". It requires a
new utility (atcfwchg.com). Assuming that this is your problem, contact
Tuan Dinh Hoang at SanDisk and he'll send you the new one.

Another possibility is that you need to specify the /S
option to tell the utility that the compact flash is the
secondary drive. By default it assumes you want to talk
to the primary drive, which is your hard disk. BTW, the
utility will only work under DOS, not under XP or W98.
