My company just bought some SanDisk 256 MB CF from Costco. The "ndcfwchg"
utility to mark them as non-removable always failed. I contacted our
SanDisk apps engineer and he replied with the following:

From Mr. Tuan Dinh Hoang:
"Yes, the cards that you have are our latest Athens cards. We are in the
process of writing the utilility. The point of making the util is to
supprort our Industrial products. RETAIL product also reaps the benefit as
well."

I asked him how to identify the older model, and when the new utility might
be ready. I'll post the answers when he replies.

I received the reply from SanDisk. Mr. Hoang says the new utility will be
ready "week after next".

Regarding how to recognize the older ones, there is a date code on the
side. They need to be older than year 2003, month 1. The code is
"AR+YYMM", so 2003, month 1 is "AR0301".
