Make IE the default browser.

B

Ben Stevenson1

When I installed Mozilla Firefox last week it became the default browser,
which is not what I wanted. I had only wanted it as an alternative. Unable
to restore IE as the default browser, I uninstalled Mozilla today. But now
when I click on links on my emails nothing happens. Looks like IE is still
not the default browser. How can I make it so?
TIA

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

I have this: C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -url "%1"
Shall I alter it to yourd above?
DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

Checked "Use DDE"
#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,

Entitled "DDE Message" : It is blank
#2
IExplore

Entitled "Application". It is also blank.
#3 (blank)

Entitled "DDE Application Not Running". It is also blank.

Entitled "Topic". There's a single word "System".
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

It is the same as what I have shown above, which is not what we want.

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Did that. But no improvement.
Would appreciate more of your help.
Thanks

Tried to do it but I don't know one part:
"Backup the key by exporting it to a REG file."

How do I back it up and where is the REG file?

Thanks

Yes. Your line defines Firefox as the default browser.
Checked "Use DDE"

Entitled "DDE Message" : It is blank

Make ir read
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
Entitled "Application". It is also blank.

Make it read
IExplore
Entitled "DDE Application Not Running". It is also blank.

Entitled "Topic". There's a single word "System".

Change it to
WWW_OpenURL
It is the same as what I have shown above, which is not what we want.

Did that. But no improvement.
