Why would they fix it later this year if they are going to replace it in a
few days?

Who can fathom the ways of Microsoft?
I would expect that SP1 (Service Pack 1) for Vista will include
all the fixes for Windows Mail, only because WM is an integral part
of Vista.

They aren't going to replace it in a few days. You are being misinformed by
those reading hearsay from others.

Wait until MS makes a public announcement and don't rely on the rumors of
others.

Open WinMail and go to Tools | Options and at the bottom set it Default
there. See what that does.

MS never tells when it is going to release a fix or update.

I can't set it there. The "Make Default" boxes aren't highlighted. It tells
me "This application is the default Mail handler" and "This application is
the default News handler". Thanks

Here's another one to try.

"C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\Winmail.exe" /reg

Copy and paste with quotes in the Start | Search. See what that does.

Otherwise I can attach the registry key you can then merge for the mailto
protocol.

Okay. Attached is the exported mailto registry key. It is named
mailto.reg.txt. Save it to the Desktop and then rename it to mailto.reg.
Then click on it to merge it into the registry. See if that fixes it.

Great. I didn't want to have to do it that way, but that seems to be the
only way its going to work.

Hello.

I am having basically the same problem. The only difference being that I
cannot make Windows Mail the default Mail Handler from the General tab on the
Tools | Options dialog.

Would the same solution for this problem fix my problem?

Thanks for your response.

No. Try going to Control Panel | Default programs and see if you can make
it default there.
