My current favorite is Foxmail. It has plenty of features, and a very pretty
GUI and its own dictionary. OE users can make the jump with no trouble.

Quite good. Neither one uses the IE HTML rendering engine. Neither one
allows the user to Run email attackments. Very safe to use.
Both have spam filtering.

I use Thunderbird and K9 and it has been flawless.

Plus of course OE has the added "feature" that every virus writer
targets it and its security holes. A bit like walking around with a
kick-me label (or worse) on ones back. Most would NOT be disappointed
to get rid of that feature I think.

Because I have been using Eudora before Thunderbird was even a glint in the
programmer's eye. I'm not sure exactly how long but I think it must be close
to 15 years now! It's a simple program with an easy to understand user
interface that does one thing and does it reasonably well.
