Mail merge in Powerpoint?

Is there a way to do a Word-type mail merge into Powerpoint?

Our office was just upgraded from MS Office 97 to MS Office 2003 and the
2003 mail merge is not working well for an existing application. (We used it
to create signs that have the same format but different information. The
data was pulled from Excel, originally from Access.) The problem is we can
no longer preview multiple signs at the same time - which is a major problem
when dealing with dozens of signs. So, we're trying to find another way to
create these signs.

Not directly in PPT itself, but there are commercial add-ins that will automate
merging into PPT from various data formats. Here are two:
