M/S Security Essentials vs MRT

I have read that the new M/S Security Essentials replaces the Windows
Defender. Is this also true for the Malicious Software Removal Tool?

Installing MSE disables Windows Defender, but it does not replace it. The
Defender application remains installed.

The MSRT utility has no effect on Windows Defender.

Malicious Software Removal Tool has always been a stand alone one time
tool that works only once each month. If you have MS Essential Security
Essential then you don't need anything else. You need to make sure it is
kept up to date and it is run to give you protection at the "gateway"
i.e. it should be active all the time.

Don't rely on Malicious Software Removal Tool to protect you. I don't
know why does MS still provide this rubbish tool.

This "rubbish tool", as you call it, has cleaned well over 1 million
computers of the conficker worm since M/S added it to their rubbish tool
definitions data base. Considering how many people run without any
protection at all this "rubbish tool" helps many people.

Richard, I agree with you 100%, but do you still recommend MRT? I use it
monthly or so in FULL Scan mode, and am now also scanning regularly with
Security Essentials. Since both are Microsoft Products, are they similar or
do they search for malware in different ways? I'm not talking about
"Realtime protection", just outright scans.

Thanks!

If my computer became infected I would certainly run the MRT as part of the
cleanup procedure. As it is, I just download and allow it to run monthly
unless I have indications to do otherwise.
