Lycos Side Search : Unremovable ! I have stopped using IE

Recently I started getting the lycos sidesearch bar
frame popping up on the side of internet explorer when I open
pages (Random pages, not every web page).

I can not find anything in the registry with even the
lycos keyword, neither can I find anything lycos related
on my HD. Is this is really Lycos? The side bar search pops at random
web page openings (Ebay searches, sometimes my online
banking etc.). I don't know how I got it, I never wanted it
or agreed to have it.

I am worried there maybe a virus of some sort posing
as lycos sidesearch. Has anyone else noticed this (latest
ad-aware doesn't find anything either). Any insight would
be greatly appreciated.
